MLB: SECOND HALF PREDICTIONS

As the American League reminds us for the NINETH year in a row, the All Star Game shouldn’t decide home field advantage in the Fall Classic. I think that argument is officially done but that doesn’t mean the game is snooze fest either. I found this years contest to be quite entertaining and from what I’ve read most baseball fans would agree. Now onto the bets for that are gonna pull me from the ashes that was the first half of the season, not for lack of trying, and put me above the Mendoza line. Ok let’s get into the predictions starting with awards..

AL Cy Young:

  • Shane McClanahan (+375)

  • Justin Verlander (+430)

  • Nestor Cortes (+450)

  • Alex Manoah (+700)

  • Gerrit Cole (+700)

  • Shane Bieber (+2200)

MY PICK: Alex Manoah (+700)

I’ll admit I didn’t see Manoah pitch much in the first half but obviously he was good enough for an All Star selection. He’s at the top of the league in quality starts, WAR, and wins. His biggest competition is McClanahan of course and then “The Ageless Wonder” Verlander. Gerrit Cole (+700) is a terrific pitcher and a good sleeper pick to throw $10 on for a chance to win $70. I just think Verlander’s age catches up with him enough to hold his innings down compared to a workhorse like Manoah or McClanahan. Speaking of McClanahan, the guy is the favorite right now for a reason, but considering his odds are (+375) compared to Manoahs (+700) I think the best bet is a no brainer.

BET: $25 to win $175

NL Cy Young:

  • Sandy Alcantara (+300)

  • Joe Musgrove (+430)

  • Corbin Burnes (+500)

  • Zack Wheeler (+900)

  • Max Fried (+1200)

  • Aaron Nola (+1400)

MY PICK: Sandy Alcantara (+300)

Nothing really surprising here except the fact that this list lacks the star power of the American Leagues candidates. Alcantara can become the first Marlin pitcher ever to win the Cy Young award and my moneys on him to do just that. He’s leading or at the top of many of the important categories like innings pitched, ERA, Ks, etc. so baring a completely disastrous second half he should be winning. It also is worth a shot to put some smaller bets on Dodger pitchers Tony Gonsolin, Julio Urias, or Tyler Anderson. All these guys are having terrific years take a look HERE.

BET: $35 to win $105

AL CENTRAL:

  • Minnesota Twins (+120)

  • Chicago White Sox (+125)

  • Cleveland Guardians (+450)

MY PICK: Cleveland Guardians (+450)

The odds here make this one too good to pass on. First of all Chicago is in third place at 3 games back of the Twins and Cleveland is in second, 2 games back. I’m not sure why Cleveland is getting such good odds when they are ahead of the White Sox in the standings. Looking at the teams it’s hard to ignore how poorly Chicago played in the first half of the season and just expect them to turn it around on a dime. The Twins have dealt with injuries and struggles in the bullpen and starting rotation. When you have guys like Chris Archer and Sonny Gray at the top of your rotation, while neither are having terrible season for the the Twins, but neither is pitching much better than average. Their saves leader has a measly 9 and an ERA above 5.. they can make some trades but there’s just too many holes to fill. So that leaves the Guardians who have an MVP candidate in Jose Ramirez leading a middle of the pack offense and starting ace pitcher Shane Bieber heading a better than expected rotation. Closer Emmanuel Clase is having an exceptional season with an ERA of 1.41 and 19 saves.

BET: $25 to win $112.50

WORLD SERIES:

  • Dodgers (+380)

  • Yankees (+400)

  • Astros (+500)

  • Mets (+700)

  • Braves (+800)

MY PICK: Yankees (+400)

At four to one odds and with the way they played in the first half I can’t pick against the Bronx Bombers. They seem to be destined to win it all this season and then make Aaron Judge the highest paid player in the baseball. They rank in the top half of the league in every major pitching category and almost every batting category besides doubles and triples as a team. They are clicking on all cylinders, have a good mix of vets and young studs, have tremendous starting pitching at the top of the rotation, and two top end arms in the bullpen. Any weakness they feel they have they will address at the deadline and their currently 12.5 games up in the AL East.

BET: $25 to win $100
